Emma Stone on her latest film: 'Poor Things' inspires curiosity

Emma Stone, the Oscar-winner, describes her new gothic comedy-drama "Poor Things" as a celebration of change and diversity. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film follows Bella Baxter (Stone), brought back to life by an eccentric doctor (Willem Dafoe) who replaces her brain with that of her unborn baby. The storyline takes Bella on a journey of self-discovery, marked by sex and liberation. Stone, who also produced the Venice Golden Lion-winning film, sees Bella's character as an inspiration for embracing all aspects of life. "Poor Things" is based on Alasdair Gray's novel and offers a unique take on the Frankenstein fable in a surreal 19th-century Europe setting. Mark Ruffalo, co-starring in the film, commends its bravery and sees it as a liberating and timely piece amidst societal challenges. The movie is set for a wider release on December 22, following its premiere in select U.S. theaters. Global cinema releases are scheduled for January.
