Rudy Giuliani, former lawyer to Donald Trump, must pay more than $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss and Ruby Freeman, he defamed through false accusations that they helped rig the 2020 election against Donald Trump, a jury decided on Friday (December 15).

The damages include roughly $73 million for reputational and emotional harm, and $75 million as punitive damages for Giuliani's conduct. The verdict came after three days of emotional testimony, where Moss and Freeman recounted receiving racist and sexist threats due to the false claims spread by Trump and his allies.

Giuliani, who has pledged to appeal, has faced various legal troubles since helping to lead Trump's efforts to overturn the election, including a criminal charge in a Georgia racketeering case for targeting Moss and Freeman.
