Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief Journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh has been injured while covering Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza. Al-Dahdouh and colleague Samer Abu Daqqa were hit by shrapnel following a missile strike launched from a drone in the center of Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city.

Al-Dahdouh suffered injuries to his hand and waist, according to Al Jazeera, and videos from the scene show the journalist receiving emergency medical attention. Al Jazeera reports that Abu Daqqa is ‘trapped’ at the site of the incident. Eyewitnesses report that the city is currently under heavy shelling.

Wael Al-Dahdouh tragically lost his wife, his son and several other family members to an Israeli airstrike in October.
