SOLVED: Why do MISSING FEET keep washing up on Canada's beaches?

Since August 2007, human feet have been washing up on the coast of the Salish Sea in Canada and the US. Between 2007 and 2019 there have been over 21 individual feet, still in their shoes, found mysteriously on beaches all over the area. The first two were found within a week of each other. Both were right feet, both were size 12. Over the next few years, more and more feet started showing up. Including a few in pairs, and almost always with their shoes still on. Some claimed there was a serial killer on the loose. It was a complete mystery why feet would suddenly start just... appearing. Turns out, the explanation is simple. A change in footwear design. When a body sinks to the bottom of the sea, it's quickly set upon by scavengers; that prefer soft body parts because they're easier to handle than bones. On humans, our ankles are soft. They're really just ligaments and soft tissue. Once this tissue is chewed away, the foot easily detaches. As for why we didn't see feet washing up until 2007 is because of modern sneaker design. The past 20 years or so, sneakers have been made of light foam and the soles have air pockets. When the foot comes off, the sneaker acts as a balloon and brings the foot to the surface. And thanks to sneaker buoyancy, over 15 missing persons cases have now been closed.
