She takes care of fine feathered friends
She knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when she was eight years old. And when Laura Wade got to vet school she picked up a nick name, they called her the "Bird Nerd". That's because she always had a fondness for and an interest in birds. All kinds of birds. Dr. Laura Wade is one of only one hundred-fifty certified avian specialists in the country. She treats all types of feathered friends and all sizes from humming birds up to emus. She says "I thing the emus I worked on this week were neat because they were the same size as me." Her practice is not just "for the birds", rabbits are frequent clients. The doctor says that rabbits have become the third most popular pets right after cats and dogs. Besides birds and bunnies, Dr. Wade treats snakes, turtles and frogs and sometimes they bite. "I get bit once a week or so" she says. He clients come from as far away as Canada and Rochester. You can find out more information at her website.
