Matthew 5:  4”Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

How to experience God’s comfort

1. Realize God is with you.

Psalm 34:18 18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Remember the following:

- God is aware.

Job 13:27 27 You put my feet in the stocks and watch all my paths; you set a limit for the soles of my feet.

- God cares.

Nahum 1:7 7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

- God wants to help.

Hebrews 4:16 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

2. Release the hurt.

Ephesians 3:16-20 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

How?

Stop focusing on what is lost and start focusing on what is left.

Isaiah 43:18 18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Romans 12:19 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

3. God uses the following to comfort us.

- Holy spirit.

Romans 15:13 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

- God’s word.

Psalm 119: 25, 52 25 My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word! 52 When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O Lord.

- God’s people.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Revelation 21:4 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
