Kiev has announced that it is launching an investigation into allegations that Russian troops killed surrendered Ukrainian soldiers.
It is the latest war crimes accusation laid at Russia's feet.
On Sunday, Ukrainian officials announced they were investigating allegations that Russian troops shot and killed unarmed and surrendered Ukrainian soldiers. If confirmed, this would constitute a serious international war crime under the Geneva Convention.
Potential war crime
This comes after footage appeared on social media showing two men in uniform being shot at close range after leaving a dugout.
The video shows the servicemen (one of them with his hands up) walking out at gunpoint and lying on the ground before a group of Russian soldier’s open fire. It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the video and the circumstances of its capture, and it is unclear when exactly the incident took place.
Just hours after Ukraine's military press service published a statement online that the video was authentic, the case was opened by the country's Prosecutor General's Office.
