Here's Why Paris Hilton Isn't The Inventor Of The 'Selfie'

It is one of those things that we can’t help but admit have taken the world by storm, literally overnight! Selfies grace the phone of every single person with a camera phone on this planet - even babies know how to make selfies these days!

A few days ago, used-to-be-socialite-turned-DJ Paris Hilton made a public claim on Twitter that she is the Queen of Selfies and that she, in fact, invented the selfie. What?! Apparently, Paris took a selfie with Britney Spears 11 years ago, in the Playboy Club in Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. When asked about it in an interview for the Today show in Australia, Paris says that she didn’t mean she actually invented it, but more like that it was the first “selfie" she ever took.

Many other celebrities can take the claim that they took a <a href="https://rumble.com/v3b6y0-cheerful-ups-deliveryman-poses-for-selfie-with-household-dogs.html" target="_blank">selfie</a> way before Paris did. Even Frank Sinatra took a few mirror selfies when he was a kid! There are even photographic evidence of selfies way before Sinatra. Actually, it is generally agreed that Robert Cornelius, an American pioneer of photography and a lamp manufacturer, is the person who took the first photographic selfie.

However, since the term “selfie" comes from “<a href="https://rumble.com/v3xc17-artist-creates-incredible-self-portrait-using-mirror-technique.html" target="_blank">self-portrait</a>", the true first selfies were done by painters. Vincent Van Gogh painted some 30 self-portraits between 1886 and 1889. Rembrandt before him painted over 100 “selfies" between 1628 and 1669.

Which bring us to wonder - who invented the duck face?
