California Highway Patrol officers arrested a driver who sped across three counties — San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa — to evade law enforcement on early Saturday morning in a chase that included a 120-mph dash across the Bay Bridge.

Around midnight, CHP said the driver was flagged for failing to stop at a traffic stop in San Francisco. The patrol called in a helicopter to pursue the vehicle as it fled toward the Bay Bridge, and continued following the driver across Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond and Concord.

CHP set down a spike strip, which caused the car’s tires to deflate before it crashed near the intersection of Medanos Avenue and Alves Lane in Bay Point. The chase came to an end just off Highway 4 near Pittsburg, according to CHP authorities, and the driver and his four passengers were detained by law enforcement.

The driver was taken into custody just before 1 a.m. on suspicion of felony evading police, making the pursuit last just under an hour, CHP said.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
