“Validub” is a Soviet hand-drawn cartoon filmed in 1952 by director Dmitry Babichenko based on a Czech folk tale.
The village boy Janek has heroic strength: he overcame a bear and even pulled a century-old oak tree out of the ground with his bare hands, for which he was nicknamed “Validub”. One day he sets off to wander - to see the world, to show himself, to show off his heroic strength. But his power brings no benefit or joy to anyone. And only when he helps people suffering from drought - he clears the bed of a mountain river littered with stones - does good fame finally come to him, and the beautiful Maryushka, the granddaughter of the old wise beekeeper, looks affectionately at Janek.
