NT Framework 27 Impeccability Applied - Part 2

SBC family,

Tomorrow we are going to use the same notes we used last week. I've attached them again for reference. The reason is we didn't finish, and the point on the outline under IV. B. is difficult to understand, but worth thinking through for practical Christian living. There is a passage that teaches that those born of God do not sin, and this, of course, is a difficult statement. There have been attempts to interpret this as continually or habitually sin to alleviate the pressure, but this is problematic because there is another verse in the same letter that says if we say we don't have continual or habitual sin then we are liars and the truth is not in us.

How can both of these statements be true? There are two other solutions that are much better, and the continual or habitual interpretation is all but dead in academic circles, though it still exists on a popular level. These are people who say that if you are really a believer you will not continue in sin. Even on a basic level, what would something like that mean? Do you sin everyday? Do you sin every other day? Isn't that continuing in sin? At any rate, we will work with this and show how the doctrine of Christ's impeccability (not able to sin) is a reality for us when certain conditions are met. Yes, we are not able to sin when we are doing something. The problem is we don't always do this. If we did there would be a doctrine of sinless perfection, but as it is, if we say we have no sin, we are liars and the truth is not in us.

I hope this has whet your appetite to know more.

Grace to you,
Jeremy
