The Arab and Islamic groups expressed their disappointment after a UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza collapsed. Israel's biggest ally, the United States, vetoed the resolution, saying 'ceasefire would only seed the next phase of war.' After the UN session, a delegation made up of officials from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the Palestinian Authority also met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.
