Daniel 1:8

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore, he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

To be “conformed to this world” means to stand with and to also pursue the world’s values, pleasures, it's delicacies. The Greek word for “mind” (nous) means more than intellect, and is the highest faculty of human nature, encompassing the mind and heart. Having this faculty one sees and comprehends God.
