George Santos has been expelled from the house. Here’s a quick breakdown of what happened

Despite George Santos not having been found guilty of a crime, he has officially been expelled from the house. This sets a bad precedent for our country. George is just one of six members of congress to have been expelled in our nations history. The first 3 members fought in the civil war for the confederacy, and the other 2 members were expelled only after being convicted of serious crimes.

Here is my full statement on now former congressman George Santos being expelled from the house which I shared on X (@RepublicanRefl)

“Today is a day that will forever be ingrained in American history as the day a dangerous precedent was set.

Every American is entitled to legal due process and the presumption of innocence when facing criminal charges.

I expected Democrats to trample on the constitution; they do it all the time. What I wasn’t expecting is 105 Republicans to do the same thing.

Expelling @MrSantosNY before he is convicted of a crime undermines the fundamental principle of 'innocent until proven guilty,' which is supposed to be a cornerstone of a fair legal system.

As many have already shared today, the expulsion of George Santos has further eroded trust in our government. Not because we all believe or know that Santos is innocent, but because we know that his rights have been violated, as well as our rights as voters.

You see, George Santos was duly elected by 'we the people.' Expelling the congressman prematurely denies constituents the right to representation based purely on unfounded allegations.

We are meant to have checks and balances in place to prevent the government from abusing power. However, given the events over the last three years, I am convinced that this safeguard is broken.

Now, political adversaries can wield 'allegations' as a tool to take out their opponents or colleagues, to effectively advance their political agenda.

The Republicans who voted to expel @MrSantosNY have once again failed Americans, playing directly into the hands of Democrats and forsaking their duty to uphold the constitution and maintain public trust.

This betrayal not only undermines the very essence of our country's foundation but also implicates those who, entrusted with the people’s voice, chose to abandon principles for political manipulation.

I stand with George Santos 🇺🇸”
