22 Year-Old Shot by IMPD, After a Chase and Shoot Out With Cops

On January 29, 2023, shortly after 3 am, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of Broadway Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant, who reported an altercation with 22-year-old Christian Myers at the location. Allegedly, during the incident, Mr. Myers fired a shot at a vehicle occupied by his ex-girlfriend, with whom he shares a child. A fired .40 caliber cartridge casing and a bullet hole in the vehicle were discovered at the scene.
As a result of the incident, Mr. Myers was wanted for felony Intimidation and Criminal Recklessness. Despite efforts, officers were initially unable to locate Mr. Myers in the area.

A subsequent operation led to the identification of Mr. Myers just after 4 pm outside a vehicle at the BP gas station on East 38th Street and East Fall Creek Parkway North Drive. When officers attempted to detain Mr. Myers, he entered a car and drove away, with a second individual also in the vehicle. Despite lights and sirens, Mr. Myers failed to stop and eventually collided with an uninvolved vehicle.

Exiting the car, Mr. Myers fled westbound across Benford Boulevard, accompanied by the other occupant. Indianapolis Metropolitan Detective Gert, driving northbound on Winding Way Lane in an unmarked vehicle, encountered the fleeing individuals. Mr. Myers fired at officers, prompting three Indianapolis Metropolitan officers, including Officers Boston and Leaphauser, to return fire, striking Mr. Myers.
Detectives later discovered a handgun with an extended magazine outside the passenger door of Mr. Myers' vehicle at the accident scene on Benford and Kessler. Another handgun with an extended magazine, equipped with a machine gun conversion device, was found where Mr. Myers was apprehended.

Officers provided immediate medical aid to Mr. Myers until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. The uninjured passenger was taken to Eskenazi Hospital due to a complaint of chest pain.
