It is never too late to begin to reach in to your wounded inner child and learn how to parent him or her. This is at the core of healing beyond the insecure bond, absence of a bond, and the absence of love from Mother and/or father. You were not unlovable. It is not ever the child's fault. In adulthood you can find your way to helping that wounded inner child to grow past the interruption caused by the deep pain of a mother that wasn't able to love. A mother that couldn't see past herself. A mother that was abusive. A mother that had no empathy. A mother who parentified you. A mother that couldn't see you or tolerate your needs because she has never found her way to having or knowing she deserves her own needs to be met. A mother that emotionally shut down and has nothing to give. Don't go back for more anymore. Don't be fooled into believing that "she loved me as much as she could" - you need to face that she wasn't able to love you and it was not your fault.
