People staying in any type of relationship with a person with Borderline Personality need to beware of the False Hope Trap. That trap is one wherein people often hope against hope that the person with BPD in your life is going to one day, gain awareness, learn to take personal responsibility and get help right? Are they? Does it look even promising? Are they in denial? Whether a significant other or a parent or adult child, friend, etc. to stay out of false hope for change it is important to really gage where this individual person you know is or isn't at. What are they or aware of that could mean change or are they not aware of changing at all?
