Postmodernism and Creative Myth Making

The postmodern condition will be briefly identified, as will some of the core ideas of postmodernism, which is the intellectual trend that seeks to comment on this socio-cultural stage of evolution. Certain early writers on postmodernism, however, overstated their case in a way that might inhibit rather than foster the quest for personal meaning. The best part of postmodernism, though, is its potential for liberating the imagination so
that a more creative engagement is possible, and this is achieved by making the idea of creativity a core value, and further, in cultivating ways of becoming more creative in supporting the construction of “personal mythologies” and new systems of meaning.

More attention will then be given to describing a number of ways in which people can take off from this new worldview to own their creative potential in the service of generating a greater sense of personal meaning.

Educational Objectives:
1) A brief overview of postmodernism.
2) How this philosophy can liberates people to be creative in counstructing “personal mythologies”.
3) Some stimulating ideas about how creative potentials can deepen their sense of personal meaning.
