Church Gives Away Supples for Thanksgiving

Cornerstone Church in Fort Myers had their 13th annual Thanksgiving Give-A-Way Saturday, offering supplies and food to families in need. “It’s an amazing thing.. to go out and pick up free food. And get you back on your feet, have a good meal," said Eddie Rucker. Rucker, his wife and three children were living out of their car after Hurricane Irma. He says things like this have been getting his family back where they belong. “I have nothing to cry about, being grateful. And that’s what’s it’s all about, being grateful for what you do have.” Cornerstone's Pastor Gregory Ford says that the goal this year was to serve 2500 families. With the help of sponsors and other businesses, he believes they were able to do so. “We want more partners, more people to join on with us, to come to us and say let’s minister to the Dunbar community and the city of Fort Myers," said Ford. Extra provisions came this year, after word of the Give-A-Way spread throughout the country. Mayor of Fort Myers, Randy Henderson, explained how his home connection to North Carolina led to entire truck deliveries of food down to Florida. "The neighbors of Wesley’ Church is Asheboro, got wind that the Mayor of Fort Myers was a native of Asheboro, North Carolina," he said. "They sent all of this." The Mayor was referring to the hundreds of Publix bags filled with food. "This is the holiday of Thanksgiving... It's a privilege to be here helping those in need."
