Filmed in Hawkins Hollow at a Hawkins Family Reunion- August 2011.

This Video is Clarence Perry singing "Susie Q" in memory of Delmar Allen "Dale" Hawkins (Aug 22, 1936 -- Feb 13, 2010). Clarence and Dale were long time friends and fellow musicians.

History of the song. In 1957, 19 year old Dale Hawkins was playing at Shreveport, Louisiana clubs, and although his music was influenced by the new rock and roll style of Elvis Presley and the guitar sounds of Scotty Moore, Hawkins blended that with the uniquely heavy blues sound of black Louisiana artists for his recording of his swamp-rock classic that later was recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Supposedly, Suzie Q was a girl Dale liked called Susie Quealey. Yeah he couldn’t rhyme anything with that last name.

I have another video of Dale singing his song to my now wife Susan “my Susie” from Summer 2005 I’ll work on getting that uploaded.
