In Praise of The Master (2012): Is There a Home for a Man Like Me?

The Master is my favourite Paul Thomas Anderson film. It has stuck in my mind since I first saw it in 2012 and demanded multiple viewings. I run the gamut of emotions every time I put it on and am always amazed at just how talented PTA is.

Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams are all exceptional, it really does go without saying. Alongside them are some truly great performances from Jesse Plemons and Rami Malek who hold their own even with very little dialogue.

The Master portrays a ghost story of men in search of their other half. Men in search of meaning and purpose in a cold and amoral universe. I think it's an extremely heartfelt and emotionally sensitive story about some truly painful, intrusive thoughts we all partake in.
