According to information obtained by the BBC, the United Arab Emirates intended to take advantage of its hosting of the UN climate talks to close oil and gas deals.

Plans to discuss fossil fuel deals with 15 countries have been revealed by leaked briefing materials.

The BBC was informed by the UN organization organizing the COP28 summit that impartial and selfless behavior was expected of the hosts.

The UAE team stated that "private meetings are private" but did not refute using COP28 meetings for business discussions.

It stated that its work has been concentrated on "meaningful climate action" but declined to comment on the topics covered in the discussions.
