Leveling Up my MG

On August 24th, I upgraded from a 5800X to a 5900X. 2 weeks later it died. This was so disappointing, as I have built a handful of Ryzen systems in the past and have never had a single issue. Come to find out that many people have had this issue.

During my research, on what was actually wrong, I found that a large retailer bought 250 of these and stated that 15 of them, were dead on arrival.

So the next step is to RMA this CPU. AMD required me to take a pic of the mounted CPU, motherboard model and BIOS version, as well as a copy of the receipt.

This CPU slowly died, and eventually it was having random reboots within 1 minute of booting windows. So while it was still working, I updated BIOS, cleared CMOS, and even went and bought a new motherboard to test this CPU. The Windows Event Viewer showed an error of WHEA 18. No idea what that meant, but past users stated that this resulted in a MB or CPU issue. Then, once the computer wouldn't post, not even to BIOS, my old board, and new board would stop the boot process with a MB Code of 90.

Nothing conclusive, but users stated that BIOS, the Motherboard, or CPU, could be the culprit.

Well after purchasing a new MB, and the issue still present, I bought another 5900X, to put in the new MB, and voila, it booted and running about 10c cooler than the faulty CPU. I'm not even using Thermal Grizzly this time, just gool ol' Noctua NT-H1.

This was a process that I hope to never go through again, and I hope AMD does a bit better with their quality control, as Team Blue is just too expensive to make the switch.
