The Zodiac killer's reign of terror began on December 20, 1968, when high school students Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday were gunned down in a remote area of Vallejo, California. The Zodiac would later claim responsibility for the double homicide in a series of cryptic letters.

On July 4, 1969, the Zodiac struck again. Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau were shot multiple times in their car while parked at a secluded spot in Blue Rock Springs Park. Although Mageau survived, Ferrin succumbed to her injuries.

The Zodiac didn't stop there. On September 27, 1969, he targeted a young couple picnicking at Lake Berryessa. Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard were brutally stabbed, and despite being left for dead, Hartnell miraculously survived while Shepard tragically passed away.

The Zodiac's final confirmed murder occurred on October 11, 1969. Paul Stine, a taxi driver, was shot in the head at point-blank range in the upscale Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

The Zodiac's notoriety wasn't solely due to his heinous crimes. It was also because of the threatening letters he sent to the media and the police, boasting about his murders and taunting authorities
