12 Steps of AA Explained in 12 Minutes! Alcoholics Anonymous for Beginners with Jerry Banfield!
Hi, I’m Jerry Banfield, and today I’m sharing something deeply personal and transformational with you. With nine and a half years of sobriety under my belt, I’m here to tell you that sobriety isn’t just a lifestyle change, it’s a complete overhaul of joy and fulfillment.
🕒 In this 12-minute video, I break down the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, the very steps that reshaped my life. From the despair of addiction to the incredible journey towards recovery, I’ve experienced the full spectrum, and I’m here to guide you through each step, hoping it will illuminate your path as it did mine.
✨ Step 1: Honesty and Acceptance
Facing the denial was tough, but acknowledging my alcoholism was the first step toward real change.
❓ Step 2: Belief in Recovery
Seeing others in AA meetings who’ve walked this path gave me hope that I, too, could be restored to sanity.
🤝 Step 3: Decision to Commit
Committing to recovery meant wanting what they had—happiness and sanity—and doing whatever it takes to get there.
📖 Step 4: Self-Examination
I penned down a brutally honest life story, confronting every truth I had avoided.
🗣️ Step 5: Confession of Wrongs
Sharing my life's unfiltered narrative with someone I trusted was liberating and eye-opening.
💭 Step 6: Readiness to Change
Recognizing my flaws, I became willing to change, to stop the cycle of fear and self-loathing.
🙏 Step 7: Humble Request for Change
A prayer and a pledge to do the work necessary to become the person I was proud to be.
🤲 Step 8: Making a List
Identifying relationships I’ve harmed and preparing to make amends was a step towards healing.
🕊️ Step 9: Making Amends
Honesty and transparency became the foundations of my new relationships, as I began to make amends.
🔄 Step 10: Continued Inventory
Daily self-reflection became a tool to maintain my balance and promptly address disturbances.
🧘♂️ Step 11: Seek Connection and Intentions
Through prayer and meditation, I sought to deepen my connection with a greater reality and set positive intentions for my life.
🌍 Step 12: Spiritual Awakening and Service
Embracing a spiritual awakening, I realized our interconnectedness and committed to helping others in their struggle with alcoholism.
This isn’t just my story; it’s a testament to what’s possible. Sobriety is not just about abstaining from alcohol; it’s about living a life that’s genuinely worth living.
