WELCOME to my eighth flight review in 2017. On 18th April, I flew Cathay Pacific service from Hong Kong (HKG) to Seoul Incheon (ICN). The operating aircraft was a Boeing 777-300. As I am a Oneworld Sapphire member, I have access to priority check-in, priority boarding and access to the lounges in HKG.

My comment to the lounges I visited: CX's business class lounge The Pier is the newest OneWorld lounge in HKG. The Pier is located at the gate 60s’ area; it takes around 15 minutes to reach there from the immigration and security point. The lounge was spacious and quiet in the morning. The staff were friendly and hardworking to help. Since Hong Kong is a multicultural place, CX offers many different types of cuisine in the lounge like Japanese ramen, Portuguese tart, Hong Kong style dim sum and won tun noodle, British breakfast, Chinese tea, etc. The shower room in the lounge is a small, but it was well-equipped. The Bridge between gates 30s’, 40-60s’ was quite busy and I had trouble finding a seat in the dining area on the North Wing. I ate a little bit in the dining area in the South Wing to fill my tummy up. I wanted a shower before my way to the gate, but there were a lot of people ahead of me, and I missed it.

My comment to the flight: I received a warm welcome from the flight attendants. I found myself a pillow and a headset on my seat. A flight attendant handed me a blanket and a welcome drink as soon as I was seated. The flight attendants on this flight were friendly, hardworking, kind and have recognised my OneWorld Sapphire status i.e. A flight attendant came to me and a few other frequent fliers and asked what we wanted for breakfast, and we were the first to eat. In addition, it was kind of like the a la carte service; the flight attendant didn’t use the trolley while serving us. The food on this flight was excellent. The power supply onboard was good. The legroom was better than my expectation, and the recline angle was big as well. However, I reckon there was a lack of leg support. The screen was responsive, but the resolution was a bit poor. The in-flight entertainment system would be fine for longer flights. The lavatories were kept clean throughout the flight. Overall, I had an excellent flight. I would recommend CX regional business class to everyone.

CX is the only Oneworld airline that flies between ICN and HKG, and CX use a mix of A330, B777-200, B777-300 and B777-300ER on the route. You are guaranteed a flatbed seat if you’re on B777-300ER. CX fly five times daily to ICN while there are more than 20 other options to ICN. Star Alliance has got a strong connection between the cities and you can choose from Asiana, Thai Airways and Ethiopian Airlines with a combination of 76 flights per week. Additionally, Asiana uses B747, A380 and A350 on this route, Ethiopian Airlines use B787-8.
