The Yellow Sign by Robert W. Chambers

The Yellow Sign by Robert W Chambers from his The King in Yellow Collection was an early American weird tale that was admired by H P Lovecraft and fed into the Cthulhu Mythos. Like them it is a story where reading an ancient book brings bad things. So it is a horror story rather than a ghost story as well as being a weird tale.

Unlike Lovecraft, Chambers was interested in love and there is a rather subtle love story here, reminding me of Richmal Cromptons Rosalind, which we've also read out on The Classic Ghost Stories Podcast.
