Monkey's Attempts At Eating With A Spoon Are Praiseworthy

It is one of the things we learn in elementary school - the illustration of the March of Progress, as it is called, depicts the 25 million years of human evolution from apes. It shows the 15 human evolutionary forebears, which in turn have made the image subject of controversy.

Scientists say that the early human evolution did not progress in any linear fashion and did not move along a "road" toward any predetermined "ideal form", so they label the image as being misleading. However, the fact that humans were once apes remains.

Capuchin monkeys might be far from our prehistoric ancestors, but they do resemble tiny, hairy, human-like creatures, with opposable thumbs, meaning they can used them to grasp things with their hands. Like, say, a dinner spoon!

Toby the Capuchin monkey has been taught by his owners to use the spoon when eating his meal, so that his hands can be clean to play around the house later. In this adorable video, we see Toby sitting in his highchair at the dinner table, munching on his fruity puree with a baby spoon.

The tiny monkey tries his very best to use the utensil properly, but like every small creature that is still learning, Toby is having trouble with the spoon. At one point, he tries to sneak some food in his mouth with his hands, but mom is right there to correct him.

As adorable as these animals are as pets, one has to wonder - why do they force this monkey to be something that it is not?
