Genesis 1:4-5 And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening and there was morning–day one (the first day).

Darkness helps us recognize the light. Evil helps us see good. Opposites are what enable us to see everything else. We can’t see stars if it’s light all the time. So, darkness/evil was created only to serve good. It’s used to refine us and brings us to tshuvah (repentance).

Isaiah 45:6-7 …I am Hashem and there is no other. I form light and create darkness; I bring peace and create evil. I, Hashem, do all these things.

God starts the days in the bible with night first followed by the day. “It was evening and morning…”. Dark to light 😉
