Cooler weather means more time inside, cuddled up in warm a blanket and a good book. Our book reviewer Carole Barrowman is back to share 4 books that she's thankful for as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. For more information on Carole and her own books, visit BarrowmanBooks.com. And see below for her picks: 1. "The Adventures of John Blake: Mystery of the Ghost Ship" by Phillip Pullman - Teenager, John Blake is trapped on a ghost ship caught jumping across centuries because of a time travel experiment involving his dad and a nefarious businessman. This book is a mash up of “Time Bandits” and “Back to the Future.” It’s a great adventure story. 2. "Thornhill" by Pam Smy - Ella has moved to a town where she knows no one. Behind her house is an old mansion that used to be an orphanage in the 1980s where another lonely young girl, Mary, lived. Ella’s story is told in striking art while Mary’s story comes in the form of her diaries and eventually the two come together. If you know a reader who loved Brian Selznick’s Hugo Cabret and The Marvels, they’ll love this one too. 3. "Bonfire" by Kristen Ritter - This is a hot thriller! The author is best known as Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix. In the novel, Abby Williams is an environmental lawyer in Chicago and doing her best to forget about her past in a small town in Indiana. A new case takes her back home to Indiana and in a twisty suspenseful story everything unravels. If you liked Gone Girl, you’ll like this one even more. 4. "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng - The Richardson family’s house burns down and an abandonded baby is left at a fire station. This is a story about family and the things that make us who we are. It’s a gripping read and would be a wonderful book club pick.
