Can We Beat The 1st Level of Duck Hunt with Only 1 Shot Per Duck?

One of the greatest video games of all time has to be the original Duck Hunt for the NES. This game was so much fun, it was also a bit infuriating with that damn dog. One of the things about duck hunt, however, is you can only play it on CRT tube TVs. As such, we wanted to check and see if it would work on the newly released Retron 3 AV. We hooked it up to several different televisions and gave it a shot, pun intended.

From the get-go, the Retron 3 AV felt very responsive. The colors were slightly off, but I attribute that more to the televisions than the system. We used a Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet cartridge for our testing purposes. We also used an original, gray Nintendo Zapper with the Retron 3 AV. With the game loaded up and ready to play it was time to shoot ducks in a barrel.

From the get-go, everything felt terrific. I was able to pick off the first duck without an issue. The second duck, the fourth, and the 8th, eventually shooting all 10 ducks with just a single shot each, giving us a clean sweep of the first level using only one shot per duck. This is exactly the sort of responsiveness I was hoping for, the Retron 3 AV functioned perfectly with this light gun game.

What do you think about Duck Hunt? Do you like it, do you not like it, do you just wish you could shoot the damn dog? Let me know your feelings in the comments, and make sure you subscribe as we will be doing a full-blown unboxing and review of the Retron 3 HD in the coming days.
