The Emir of Qatar's mother, Sheikha Moza, resigned as UNESCO ambassador

This step was announced at a summit with the theme "One Heart for Palestine" in Istanbul, Turkey, hosted by Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan on Wednesday, November 15.

Sheikha @mozabintnasser , mother of Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar, has apologized and resigned from her role as UNESCO ambassador due to the organization's failure to protect children in Gaza and provide assistance to them.

• "When I accepted Director General Mr Koichiro Matsuura's invitation to become UNESCO's Special Envoy for Primary and Higher Education, I had great respect for the organization," said Sheikha Moza during the summit.

• "I really hope that together we can change the field of education and protect it. But I am disappointed by UNESCO's silence when students are targeted, and schools are destroyed in Gaza, which is not in line with UNESCO and its mandate at any level.”

In her speech at the session, Sheikha Moza stressed the need for “the Arab and Islamic worlds to unite on what is happening in Gaza,” and asked, “How long will the international community continue to watch and remain silent? How can someone who criticizes crimes in Gaza be accused of anti-Semitism?
