Treatment options include lifestyle changes, such as improving sleep hygiene, and medication.

Mental Health Disorders: Anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression can disrupt sleep and lead to insomnia. Awakening too early can be a sign of depression. Insomnia often occurs with other mental health disorders as well.
Medications: Many prescription drugs, such as certain antidepressants and medications for asthma or high blood pressure, can interfere with sleep. Over-the-counter medications, including some pain medications, allergy and cold medications, and weight-loss products, may contain caffeine and other stimulants that can disrupt sleep
Medical Conditions: Various medical conditions, such as chronic pain, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), overactive thyroid, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease, are linked with insomnia
Lifestyle and Environmental Factors: Inconsistent sleep schedules, napping during the day, poor sleeping environments, and habits like consuming caffeine, tobacco, or alcohol can contribute to insomnia.
Other Factors: Insomnia can also be caused by underlying mental health problems, physical conditions, pregnancy, menopause, and certain sleep disorders like sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome.
