The mountain resort city of Gatlinburg in Sevier County, Tennessee is an important tourism destination in the state, with many manmade attractions, and it borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But one of the most popular and unusual tourist attractions in the city is Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, opened in 1997, which also features special exhibits covering subjects such as the Titanic, pirates and more recently the planet Mars.

Voted Best U.S. Aquarium by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice, Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg offers several exclusive experiences, including Penguin Encounter and Penguin Paintings! The Aquarium’s most adorable creatures aren’t just lovely to look at, but they also astonish the visitors with their exceptional painting skills!

One of Ripley’s adorable artists is Koko, a Magellanic penguin that just loves couture. On Halloween day, Koko dressed up in a pink piglet costume and strutted on Aquarium grounds to bring even more delight to the visitors! Watching her follow her caretaker around in the office, while that fluffy pink piglet head wobbles back on forth on her back made us giggle like little kids on Christmas day! How cute is she?

The Magellanic penguin is a South American penguin, breeding in coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands. It is the most numerous of the Spheniscus penguins. The Magellanic penguin was named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who spotted the birds in 1520. The species is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
