So, you have started a pantry for the coming dark winter.

But you still need to finish your prepping to make

sure you have plenty on hand in case things get prickly.

Garlic. Garlic is one of the oldest

known horticultural crops and has been a

staple in people's pantries for thousands of years.

It originated in central Asia and was domesticated during Neolithic times.

It spread to the Middle East and northern Africa around

3000 BC, which quickly enabled it to reach Europe.

Most scholars agree that garlic has been used as a

medicinal plant and food source for over 7000 years.

This makes garlic one of the most ancient of vegetables.

Today, garlic represents one of the most popular

flavorings in South Asia, together with ginger and onion.

Storing garlic properly can help it retain its quality and

flavor for a long time.

Here are some methods you can use: Whole Garlic

Heads: Keep the bulb intact for as long as possible.

The best place for a whole head of garlic is

somewhere cool, dry, and dark.

The pantry is usually the safest spot.

Don't close your garlic in a small drawer or seal

it up in a bag.

It can last up to six months this way.

Preservation in Oil, Wine, or Vinegar: Another

method is to preserve the garlic by storing it in

oil, wine, or vinegar. Remember,

fresh garlic in oil could develop botulism over

time, according to the USDA.

Vacuum-Sealed Garlic: can last 12 months if

stored in a cool, dark place.

Ginger root Ginger root is a versatile

ingredient that has been used for centuries in cooking and traditional medicine.

It contains Gingerol: gingerol is the

main bioactive compound in ginger,

responsible for much of its medicinal properties.

It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Treats Nausea. Aids Digestion. Pain Relief from osteoarthritis.

For a never-ending supply of ginger, plant a ginger

root in a small pot and keep it on the windowsill.

It will send up shoots and leaves just like any other houseplant.

Whenever you need ginger for a recipe, lift the

plant; cut off a piece of the root, and

return it to its pot – It will not hurt

the plant a bit. It will take 8-10 months to

grow your ginger plant at home.

If you live in a cold climate this is a

tropical plant, you can grow indoors.

Gelatin Stocking up on Gelatin makes sense in your pantry.

It provides essential amino acids, the building

blocks of proteins, which can provide potent health benefits.

Hydrated skin. Healthy Intestines. Lower Blood Sugar.

Stronger Joints and Bones. Promotes Hair and Nail Health.

It can be found in Gelatin desserts, marshmallows,

gummy candies, fruit snacks, jams,

and jellies, certain meats, like Aspics,

head cheese, canned hams, and even puddings and custards.

Not all versions of these foods will contain gelatin, some offer vegan alternatives.

“We’re about to go into a dark winter.

A dark winter,” Biden said.

“And he has no clear plan, and there’s no

prospect that there’s going to be a vaccine available for

the majority of the American people before the middle of

next year.” Biden’s remarks came after

President Donald Trump offered a rosy, unrealistic

timeline for vaccine distribution. Responding

to the Democratic nominee, the president said: “I

don’t know if we’re going to have a dark winter at all.

We’re opening up our country.

We’ve learned and studied and understand the disease, which we didn’t at the beginning.”
