Charles Cullen, a nurse who believed he was acting out of mercy, but turned out to be one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Charles Cullen worked at nine hospitals and one nursing home in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for 16 years. Operating at night, he would enter patients' rooms, injecting them with lethal doses of drugs like digoxin, a heart medication. His victims were mostly elderly patients, some already ill, while others were on the road to recovery. In 2003, Charles Cullen was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder. In 2006, Charles Cullen pleaded guilty to killing 22 patients, and was sentenced to 11 consecutive life terms, with no chance of parole for 397 years. Charles Cullen claimed he committed these sinister acts to end patients' suffering and pain.
