The book of Habakkuk is one of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament of the Bible. It is a unique book that focuses on the prophet's dialogue with God and his pleas for answers to the injustice he sees in the world.

Habakkuk begins the book by questioning God's justice. He sees violence, destruction, and corrupt leadership, and wonders why God allows such evil to exist. In his frustration, he asks God how long he must cry out for help without receiving an answer. Despite his doubts, Habakkuk chooses to wait for God's response, acknowledging that the righteous shall live by faith.

God responds to Habakkuk's plea by revealing his plan to bring judgment upon the wicked using the Babylonians. This response perplexes Habakkuk, as he questions how God can use a nation even more wicked than those they are meant to judge. He does not understand how God's justice can be achieved through the rise of a nation that seems undeserving.

In the midst of his confusion, Habakkuk decides to take his concerns to God through prayer. He acknowledges God's sovereignty, power, and everlasting nature. Habakkuk recognizes that even in the face of uncertainty, he can trust in God's faithfulness.

God's response to Habakkuk is a reminder that the righteous shall live by faith, emphasizing the importance of unwavering trust in God's sovereignty. God assures Habakkuk that the Babylonian empire will not escape judgment but will ultimately face their own downfall. The book concludes with a hymn of praise and a declaration of trust in God's strength and salvation.
