KCSO investigating in-custody death
Bakersfield Police are investigating after one person was stabbed in east Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon. Police say they got the call at about 3 p.m. and arrived at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on California Avenue to find one victim of a stabbing. The victim had moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an inmate at their Central Receiving Facility died in their cell. KCSO says the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at around 12:22 p.m. on Saturday. Deputies tried saving the inmate's life, with help from Hall Ambulance and the Bakersfield Fire Department, but the inmate was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were called to investigate because it was an in-custody death. The inmate's name will be withheld until family is notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
