The World Health Organization (WHO) has said thatthe Al-Shifa, the main hospital in Gaza, "is notfunctioning as a hospital anymore".

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry said at least 2,300people were still inside Al-Shifa, in an update shared by the WHO.

Doctors there said they feared the remaining 36newborn babies needing intensive care treatment maydie. This is unless the hospital gets fuel to power thegenerators for incubators and to provide oxygen supply.

Israel has said that Hamas has a command centreunder the hospital - which Hamas denies - but insistedit was not hitting the hospital during fighting.
