Yakutia bear attack thwarted with fire extinguishers

Reason #867 why Siberia is dangerous: tenacious bears. In this particular incident, a bear mauled a group of workers in Yakutia, and then came back for seconds. The bear invaded a workers’ camp in the Chayandinskoye field and attacked two of the workers – a foreman and a mechanic – causing severe lacerations. A third worker was able to fend off the bear, barely.

Amazingly, this one brave man managed to briefly scare the bear off armed only with a fire extinguisher, but for some reason the bear, armed only with himself, returned to finish the job. The workers, during the brief respite, had managed to enlist the help of a local hunter, who was able to shoot and kill the bear. The injured workers were taken to the hospital, and said to be in serious condition.
