Chapter 2: Effect of Thought on Circumstances

In this chapter, we learn how one’s inner thoughts and emotions affect the outer conditions of our lives.
However, as this relationship is greatly influenced by external factors, our inward and outward states may not always reflect each other.

The strongest opposite force to external factors on one’s circumstances is their thoughts, and subsequent feelings springing from said thoughts.

When one practices self-purification of thought and self-control through prioritising constructive, goal-orientated and future-focused thoughts, one can easily remedy one’s faults and find their circumstances changing as a result.

Since we all have the ability to alter our circumstances through simple discipline, it is made clear that fixating on the negatives of blame, shame and complaining draws even more of those aspects into your life, further poisoning our thoughts. ‘As long as a man believes he is a creature of external conditions he will be buffeted by those conditions’

To avoid this we must take and accept more responsibility in life; realising only a positive shift directly effects himself, others, and his life and circumstances towards better, and in doing so we prove to ourselves that we are the makers of our own lives and destinies.
