From The Vault: College football in snowstorm
The University of Cincinnati and Memphis State played during a surprise snowstorm in the Cincinnati area on Halloween Eve, Oct. 30, 1993. Cincinnati won on a last-minute field goal, 23-10. When the storm ended on Sunday, there were 6.2 inches on the ground, marking the first White Halloween on record in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. The 5.9 inches of snow on Saturday was a record for a single day in October. The next day, the coldest high temperature for Halloween - just 36 degrees – kept a lot of trick-or-treaters home. A popular activity was building a snowman with a pumpkin head. A Boy Scout camporee in Loveland that attracted 4,000 scouts from around the Midwest went on as scheduled, with many scouts sleeping outdoors in tents and testing the scouts’ motto: Be prepared.
