Video Details:
Tesla has announced Model S and X are finally receiving a big re-fresh but its not a body design change but maybe more importantly a range upgrade

The long range Model S now gets an EPA rated range of 370 miles while the X tops out at 325 miles. The catch is the S and X are not getting the 2170 cells that the Model 3 has which is a more efficient, they’re actually keeping the same cells.
How are they increasing their range by 10%?
They’re basically taking out permanent magnet motor of a model 3 (more efficient) and replacing the front induction motor of the S and X with this Model 3 type motor.

The rear motors on S and X stay the same as induction motors and this split design Tesla says leads to 93% efficiency and improved energy flow both out of the battery pack and back into it in regen breaking.

This architecture also increases power, torque and 0-60 times for the long range and standard range models.

Even the tires have undergone slight changes in tread pattern and rubber compound that makes them lighter and more efficient.

The air suspension also receives both hardware and software changes. They now come with four-corner adjustable dampening components. The rear springs are a bit stiffer, while the fronts are softer so the car responds to road situations dynamically vs the previous speed based lowering chassis.

The one key element that has left some disappointed is that since the S and X will not utilize the Model 3 2170 battery cells, they will not be able to utilize the maximum charging speed that the V3 superchargers will offer (250 kilowatts)

Although, the new S and X will get a 50% charging speed bump from the previous 125 kilowatts on V2 chargers to 200 kilowatts with these new vehicles on V3. Tesla says since the significant range of bump of the new S and X will require less charging stops, so a slightly slower supercharging speed wont matter as much.

Also, Tesla is re-introducing the lower price entry standard range Model S and X back as well.

Lastly, as a thank you, Tesla says existing Model S and X owners can now upgrade to a Performance S or X and get the Ludicrous mode options ($20,000 price tag) for free. What do you think of these changes? Is this enticing enough to upgrade or does not having the 2170 cells in the new flagship models a deterrent for you? Let us know in the comments below.
