A tragic incident unfolded near Belmont University as a freshman, Jillian Ludwig, lost her life after being struck in the head by a stray bullet while walking on a trail close to the Nashville campus, according to officials.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department revealed that the 18-year-old was shot on Tuesday afternoon while walking on a track in Edgehill Memorial Gardens Park.

Sadly, Jillian Ludwig passed away overnight, as announced by the department on social media Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred around 2:24 p.m., involving a man firing on a moving car from a street near the park. A suspect is now in custody.

Jillian Ludwig, described as a music enthusiast and an “avid runner who enjoys being outside” by the university president, collapsed immediately after being shot, CNN reported.
