NEW FORD’S F-150 SUPERCHARGED SECRET |700HP | V8 #ford #f150 #2024 #car_2024
The non-hybrid or all-electric Ford F-150 hasn't been in the news much lately. Sales, however, remain as strong as ever despite the production crunch caused by the semiconductor chip crisis. A majority of buyers are opting for one of the turbocharged EcoBoost engines (the PowerStroke diesel is dead for 2022), but there's still the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8. This is the same engine found in the Mustang GT.
Unfortunately, it's time seems to be limited due to upcoming emissions standards. But that day hasn't arrived just yet. Ford Performance has offered a supercharger kit specifically for this engine in past years and it's back again. However, there's been a change.
Ford Authority confirmed with Ford Performance product manager Mike Goodwin that the latest kit had to be redesigned due to the engine receiving cylinder deactivation. Still, it delivers an extremely healthy 700 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Going from 0 to 60 mph takes less than five seconds. Not so long ago, those were supercar performance numbers.
And in case you're wondering (because this is important these days), the kit is CARB legal in all 50 states. It also comes with a 3-year, 30,000-mile warranty specifically for the Whipple supercharger but only if it's installed by a Ford dealer. Other components included in the kit, which requires up to 12 hours for installation, are an intercooler and an air inlet but not the intake and exhaust.
Pricing has yet to be announced but the 2020 kit set the bank account back by $7,500. Installation was another $2,000 to $3,000. The new kit should cost about the same. Orders will get underway by the end of the year. Ford didn't have anything to add regarding the NA 5.0 V8's lifespan but, as noted, we don't expect it to last much longer in its current form.
The upcoming seventh-generation Mustang, internally called S650, will offer two hybrid engine options, one of which is a hybridized version of the engine. Not only will it be more efficient but output will surely increase. Hopefully, it'll make its way to the F-150 as well.
Since the superchargers are available for the base XL trim, it’s possible to get an extremely nasty street truck for a relatively small amount of money. The XL model with a V8 engine costs around $38,000 after destination charges, so the final price with the supercharger included would slide in well under $50,000. Of course, that price does not include installation, which can add thousands to the bottom line if you cannot do the installation yourself.
