The Nakba - the truth about the Arab Palestinian myth

Short documentary on the myth created around the Nakba ("the catastrophe") based on Arab, English and French documentation and recollections of Arab interviewees from that period.

The flight of Arab Palestinians from the region around 1948 occurred due to several reasons:

- Arab leaders insisting and encouraging the local population to move out temporarily, until the 5 Arab armies "finish the job" of defeating Israel. Arabs would be able to return shortly and not only keep their own land but receive additional land taken from the Jews...

- fear from the war

- Arab propaganda that made up atrocities committed by Jews and which were supposed to embolden Arab armies into the battle to remove Jews from the land.

This had however an unexpected effect and scared the local Arab population into fleeing their villages.

- Israelis did not force Arabs out of their homes
