Every year, a significant number of elderly and terminally ill patients quietly undergo #Euthanasia within #NHS facilities. Whether in hospitals, care homes, or hospices, these patients' lives are expedited behind closed doors in what seems to be a compassionate and humane manner.

But how has this practice of euthanasia, prohibited in the UK and carrying a potential life imprisonment sentence, become so widespread and socially acceptable? Moreover, why are individuals who are far from the end of their lives receiving lethal 'cocktails' of drugs, reminiscent of those used for executions in numerous U.S. states?

Jacqui Deevoy is a freelance journalist who has spent many years writing for major British newspapers. Around two years ago she began investigating how a banished euthanasia program had returned to British hospitals—coinciding with the onset of COVID-19. This program includes greatly increased use of the respiratory depressant drug midazolam.
