Jerry Springer talks about appearing on Cincinnati Magazine's 50th anniversary edition cover
Cincinnati Magazine is celebrating its golden anniversary this month with a special edition and exhibit of its most interesting covers from the past 50 years at the Downtown library. The magazine revealed its free display of covers on Friday at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County on Vine Street downtown. The exhibit will be open for viewing until Nov. 3 during regular library hours. Join the conversation on social media at #CM50. Since 1967, Cincinnati Magazine has kept its finger on the pulse on the city’s culture with its “Best of the City” guides, “Top 5” lists, community features, dining guides, lifestyle pieces and more. Former Cincinnati Mayor Jerry Springer (and host of his infamous television show) is featured on the cover of the 50th anniversary edition, which is on newsstands now. This is the sixth time Springer has appeared on the magazine’s cover, which ties him with Cincinnati Red Pete Rose for the most times ever. The content of the 50th anniversary edition includes reflections of notable Cincinnatians on the city’s transformation over the years (for better or worse) and an A-Z guide to Cincinnati’s defining people, places and moments. The anniversary edition is the magazine’s 600th issue. “Cincinnati Magazine has been the voice of the city for the last 50 years, and we’re not going anywhere,” said Cincinnati Magazine Publisher Ivy Bayer in a news release. “As we’ve chronicled what’s happening around us, we have also morphed and changed right along with the city. We’re now embracing this historic milestone as an opportunity to plan for our future. And our plans include continuing to provide vibrant, culturally relevant content to our readers on a variety of platforms, including both print and digital.” In addition to celebrating 50 years, the magazine is also gearing up for the second year of its philanthropic fundraising competition, The Cincinnati Gives Challenge. The monthlong challenge raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for local charities in its inaugural year. In conjunction with the challenge, the magazine will again produce its comprehensive Guide to Charitable Giving, showcasing several local charities and stories of generosity.
