Ignore the Tories, make a call for peace on Armistice Day.

Where both blue and red Tories condemn the idea of protest at Armistice, they show they themselves have forgotten what it is for.
Right, so protesting on Armistice Day, for Palestinians, how dare people even think about doing that so say the likes of Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman, a woman who has likened such protests to hate marches already, I would have thought she would recognise one of those when she saw one really, she goes on one every time she leaves for work. But various media talking heads and of course the people they invite on to comment on such things who are in no way impartial themselves to speak on such things, convey the same message, hammering it home, this wrong and this deliberate reinforcement of what amounts to a proto-fascist form of messaging will sink in to those being brainwashed by it. All of these people are being deliberately ignorant of history and deliberately ignorant of the meaning of Armistice Day, in their actions. Protesting on Armistice Day is not a hate march, is not in bad taste given what is happening in Israel and Gaza but actually, there are few other days that it could be more appropriate.
Right, so Armistice Day is coming around again, the 11th of November as it always is, sometimes coinciding with, but not always with Remembrance Sunday, which this year is the 12th, but it’s not just about remembering those who fought and died to save us and preserve our rights and our freedoms, this day, which marks the end of World War I, is also about that very important, very relevant word that is armistice. The dictionary definition of armistice is ‘a formal agreement between two countries or groups at war to stop fighting for a particular time, especially to talk about possible peace.’ It comes from the latin arma meaning arms and stitium, meaning stoppage, so the literal meaning of the word is arms stoppage. A ceasefire then, aimed at peace, the word used to mark the day World War I ended as talks and politics and peace brought the violence to an end. Everyone right now calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East therefore, is calling for armistice, so why is it that those of us wanting to see that ceasefire are being called haters? Are being told when we go and protest that we’re marching for hate? Are being told that to march for a ceasefire, to march for an end to the atrocities happening right here and right now, is disrespectful? Rishi Sunak has issued a statement espousing this very thinking saying: ‘To plan protests on Armistice Day is provocative and disrespectful and there is a clear and present risk that the Cenotaph and other war memorials could be desecrated, something that would be an affront to the British Public and the values we stand for. The right to remember, in peace and dignity, those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for those freedoms must be protected. I have asked the Home Secretary to support the Met Police in doing everything necessary to protect the sanctity of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.’
First off, no desecration of these monuments is either being respectful or is helping the current cause if you wish to protest for peace in Gaza and Israel right now.
