Prehistoric-looking white sturgeon fish in British Columbia, Canada. 🦕 White Sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America, and they can grow to be over 6 meters long and weigh over 600 kilograms. They are also some of the longest-lived fish in the world, with some individuals living for over 150 years. They are anadromous fish, meaning that they spend part of their lives in freshwater and part of their lives in saltwater. They migrate to freshwater to spawn and then return to the ocean to feed and grow. Unfortunately, the White Sturgeon population has declined in recent years due to overfishing, habitat loss, and pollution. The species is currently listed as Threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC).
